Simple Construction - maximum stability
Shelves and side panels are intertwined by a strong nylon band.
Based on a simple geometric consideration, the high tension built up between the components gives the shelf stability.
Tension generates stability
The nylon band is looped through the two slots of the side panel [a] and through the slot in the board [b]. The board is therefore centered between the two slits [c]. This creates an isosceles triangle. When the board is pressed down the isosceles triangle becomes a scalene triangle[d] which has a larger overall size than the original geometry. As the nylon band bends only very slightly, the high tension that is built up gives the shelf the necessary strength and stability.
Fixation
The ends of the nylon band are fixed by several loops. The nylon band thus creates an ideal surface on which the shelf can be shifted on the ground.
Assembly
The shelf is assembled within 10 to 15 minutes, and can be done by one person working alone.
The assembly steps are detailed below.
[1] Arrange the boards centered between the slots in the side panels and loop the nylon band tight through the slots.
[2] Rotate the shelf to the side. The side panels must be maintained and stabilized.
[3] Loop the band in the free corner as tight as possible through the slots.
[4] Rotate the shelf again and loop the band into the last corner.
