Novartis Animal Health, one of the leading manufacturers of products in veterinary medicine, has worked with Flink to produce a carrying system for transporting and dispensing medicaments to sheep.
The system consists of three components: the medicament holder, the applicator and the carrying system.
The container is held safely on the back in a rucksack [1] and linked to the applicator [3] with a hose [2]. During drenching the medicament flows forward through the hose into the applicator and is thus dispensed orally to the sheep.
We develop for the end user. That is why the carrying system has been optimised in many workshops, prototypes and field tests, so that it fits perfectly for the tough conditions found in practice.
The way the hose passes over the shoulder [1] allows the user unrestricted mobility. A further important feature is the option of fixing the applicator at chest height [2]. This allows the farmer to hold stubborn animals with both hands
The carrying system impresses with its functional, intuitive design, optimal ergonomics and sturdy construction from high-quality materials. The aim was to use a simple, tool-oriented look and feel to give an impression of both the corporate identity of the brand and the area of application in veterinary medicine.
The carrying system is not just a rucksack – it is rather a tool that has been adapted perfectly to the needs of the farmer and ergonomically optimized. Flink’s varied competences, experience with textiles and carrying systems and development of products for the tool industry are very important for this project. Probably the most important factor for the success of development is the intensive cooperation with Novartis Animal Health and the end users.
Flink is pleased to be able to give you a quick look at the project:
Part of the first stage is to learn how oral injection of medicaments to sheep is carried out and which factors must be taken into account.
Concepts for the carrying system are created and examined using quick models. The ergonomics of the carrier and the logical placement of the components are focused on during this first stage of development.
As soon as the basic concept is in place, the real process of design begins. Various approaches are developed to integrate the features as coherently as possible in the overall system. The solutions are discussed with the customer and the concept for final implementation is determined.
The concept selected is further processed, consolidated and thought through in every detail. In the process, variants are developed and evaluated, and solutions are tested using simple models. At the end of this phase the detailed product specification is ready to be given to the manufacturers.
Production is taken on by manufacturers in southern China. To achieve the highest attention to detail, Flink monitors the manufacturing process on-site and makes decisions along with the manufacturer about any adjustments and optimization.
The first samples are sent to end users for testing. Flink tries its hand at sheep farming again, and brings in the last optimisations before the start of mass production.
